Educational Events

Practical workshops and training sessions designed to give special needs families the knowledge and tools they need to thrive.

Empowering Families Through Knowledge

When Alicea founded Fundamentally Awesome, one thing was clear: families need access to the same knowledge that professionals have. The best way to help our children is to learn as much as we can.

Our Educational Events program brings together experts, professionals, and experienced parents to share practical, actionable information that makes a real difference in daily life.

From understanding your insurance rights to learning CPR with special considerations for medically complex children, our workshops cover the topics that families tell us they need most.

Educational Events FAQ

Common questions about our educational programs and workshops

Our educational events cover a wide range of topics including: elopement prevention and safety, speech therapy resources and techniques, aggression management strategies, insurance navigation and advocacy, transitioning to adulthood, feeding therapies, CPR and first aid training, financial planning for special needs families, and IEP/educational advocacy.

Our educational events are open to parents, caregivers, family members, and professionals who work with special needs children. Some events are designed specifically for parents, while others welcome the whole family. Event descriptions will specify the intended audience.

Many of our educational events are free. Some specialized workshops (like CPR certification) may have a small fee to cover materials or instructor costs, but we strive to keep all events accessible. We never turn away a family due to inability to pay.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @FundamentallyAwesome for event announcements. You can also sign up for our email newsletter or check our Events page regularly for updates on upcoming workshops and training sessions.

Events are held at various locations throughout the Houston metro area, including partner venues, community centers, and sometimes online. Location details are provided when you register for each event.

Some workshops offer supervised activities for children while parents attend sessions. This is noted in the event description. For events without childcare, we encourage finding arrangements so you can focus on the workshop content.

Absolutely! We love hearing from families about what topics would be most helpful. Contact us with your suggestions—we design our programming based on what families tell us they need most.
