From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Fundamentally Awesome
Fundamentally Awesome was first considered during the time between diagnosis and therapies. Texas has some of the longest waitlists and so much vital time is passed by our years on end waits. Our founder and her family saw the need to bridge the gaps in services. We strive to have fun events, fundraisers, and camps with educational opportunities for special needs families. Our long goals are to have year long swimming instruction for special needs children, a fully equipped camp for the entire family, weekend events, and educational programs for older special needs children.

Interview with Fundamentally Awesome CEO
I am Alicea Townsend,
I am the founder and executive director of Fundamentally Awesome. I have a son who is autistic with accompanied language and other diagnoses. It was quickly realized that Texas was behind in most states ability to help my child. After sitting on waitlists, losing coverage and finding out that some polices can exclude autism all together, I decided to do something. The best way I know to help my child was to learn as much as I could on my own by asking as many questions as I could to the professionals who provide them. I found groups of moms online who had so much helpful information that literally changed our everyday lives. There are people that can help guide us to keep our children safe, secure, and happy. This is why I founded Fundamentally Awesome, so we can help each other make our everyday lives better for our families.

Lessons Learned: The Key to Non-Profit Program Evaluation
This is a growing experience. As my Nona would say, "If you are not learning, you are not living". We intend to be in a constant state of learning. We want this to be beneficial for all our families. We want this to go beyond our events and in every community. We want the knowledge gained to be spread as far as it can. The goal is to make our special needs children and their familes feel safe, cared for, and get a deeper understanding of how to help our children. We work with countless nonprofits, groups, and businesses to further our outreach. Our motto here is, "helping us help eachother".
